The UFL: Does it Have a Chance?

By: Jake

You have to give Tim Armstrong and William Hambrecht some credit. They got this far with their successful draft, big name coaches, and established sites for their games, along with a deal with a National TV network for broadcasting their games. Versus Network has agreed to show all of the games for the new league with four teams stationed in: Las Vegas, NV, San Francisco, CA, Orlando, FL, and New York, NY. Their games will be played on Thursdays during the same season as the NFL, College Football, and High school Football, with the Championship being played the day after Thanksgiving.

As for the big name coaches I mentioned, they include former NFL coaches Denny Green, Jim Fassel, and Jim Haslett. Coaching the other team will be long time Defensive Coordinator Ted Cottrell. Not only are the coaching names big, but NFL players like Brooks Bollinger, JP Losman, BJ Sams, and LaBrandon Toefield will also be featured (Okay, not so much the players) But either way you can't miss players like Cecil Sapp and Chris Perry (Okay, maybe you can). However, in all seriousness, the UFL looks to make a name for itself by offering a contract to  FA QB Mike Vick once the season starts, pending legal issues. Vick is not under contract for any NFL team, and if he receives a suspension form Commissioner Goodell, he might want to consider the Orlando team's offer as a way to get back into the groove as a  football player after being removed form it for so long. Although none of the teams have names yet, I believe this league is worth watching for a game or two. I mean, what else is there to watch on Thursdays besides The Office?
